Frequently Asked Questions
October to March offers pleasant, dry weather ideal for sightseeing and houseboat cruising. April-May is warm and humid; the June-September monsoon brings heavy rain but lush, dramatic landscapes and lower rates, favored by travelers seeking a quieter, greener Kerala.
Light cottons for humid Kochi and Alleppey, a light sweater or jacket for cool Munnar mornings and evenings (10-20°C in winter), comfortable walking shoes for plantation and park visits, a raincoat/umbrella in monsoon, and swimwear if your hotel has a pool.
Munnar sits at roughly 1,600m and stays pleasantly cool year-round, dipping to 8-12°C on winter nights (Dec-Jan). A medium jacket or fleece is sufficient; heavy woolens are not required.
No, The Mattancherry Dutch Palace is closed on Fridays and the Paradesi Synagogue is closed on Saturdays (the Jewish Sabbath) and on Jewish holidays. Our itinerary is planned around these closures wherever possible.
The park typically closes annually during the Nilgiri Tahr calving season, usually February and March, and may close temporarily during heavy monsoon. We recommend confirming current closure dates closer to travel and can suggest alternatives if needed.
A varied landscape: flat coastal backwaters at Kochi and Alleppey, winding hill roads and tea-estate slopes around Munnar (elevation up to 1,700m), and dense forested terrain around Thekkady's Periyar sanctuary — best enjoyed with comfortable footwear.
Yes, houseboats are equipped with railings, life jackets, en-suite bedrooms, dining areas and trained crew. They are generally family-friendly; parents should supervise young children near the open deck edges as with any waterside accommodation.
The houseboat night includes freshly prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner (all-inclusive), typically featuring Kerala classics like appam, fish curry, prawn masala and rice, cooked onboard by the boat's own crew and served on the upper deck.
No separate permit is required for travelers; the Periyar Lake boat cruise entry ticket itself serves as your access authorisation into the Periyar Tiger Reserve boating zone, and is included in your package.
Alcohol is sold through government-authorized outlets and licensed hotel bars/restaurants; availability can be restricted on designated 'dry days' (e.g. some national holidays). Most 3-star-and-above hotels on this itinerary have licensed bars.
Modest clothing covering shoulders and knees is expected at temples, synagogues and churches; footwear is removed before entering most temples. Photography is restricted inside some shrines and the synagogue — signage and our driver-guide will advise.
Yes. All hotels and the houseboat can prepare vegetarian, vegan or Jain (no onion/garlic/root vegetables) meals with advance notice at the time of booking — please flag dietary requirements when confirming the tour.
Largely yes, though Munnar's viewpoints and Thekkady's boat jetty involve some walking and steps. Hill roads have curves; travelers prone to motion sickness should carry medication. We can customize the pace or reduce optional activities on request.
The 110km route winds through spice plantations and hill terrain with numerous curves; it is scenic but takes roughly 4 hours. Roads are generally well-maintained, though monsoon landslides can occasionally cause short delays.
Malayalam is the local language, but English and Hindi are widely understood in tourist areas, hotels and by our driver-guides, so communication is generally easy for domestic and international travelers alike.
Indian Rupee (INR) is the currency; cards and UPI are widely accepted in cities, though carrying some cash is useful in rural/backwater areas. Tipping drivers, boat crew and hotel staff (roughly ₹200-500/day per service) is customary but not mandatory.
Coverage is generally good in Kochi, Munnar and Thekkady towns, though signal can weaken in remote plantation stretches. Onboard houseboats, network is patchy in interior backwater channels; most hotels offer Wi-Fi in common areas and rooms.
Yes, Kerala is the home of authentic Ayurveda, and most hotels on this route offer certified spa treatments and massages. These are not included by default but can be booked locally or added as an optional inclusion.
Bamboo rafting, elephant rides and the Kalariyapattu martial-arts show at Thekkady are optional and charged separately (typically ₹800-1,800 per person), as they depend on availability and personal interest and are not part of the standard inclusions.
Monsoon (June-September) brings Kerala's landscape to its lushest and is popular for Ayurveda and backwater travel, though heavy showers can affect hill sightseeing and houseboat movement on some days; our team adjusts the day's sequence around forecasts where possible.
